More and more people are setting up a home office and choosing to work from home. While there are many advantages to choosing this path, there are many things that need to be taken into account and planned. These include things like choosing office furniture such as the desk and office chair as well as choosing office equipment such as the an office computer, printer and print cartridges. You should also try to make your office reflect as much of your personal style as possible. By paying careful attention to all the different aspects of your home office, you can create a pleasant and productive space.

Office Furniture

The type of furniture that you choose to use in your home office is extremely important. This is because in order to be as productive as possible you should be comfortable and well supported. Ergonomic office furniture is a little more expensive than other office furniture but it is definitely worth the investment. Ergonomic furniture supports your body in the correct posture. An ergonomic office chair can prevent conditions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, back pain and shoulder pain.

An ergonomic office chair will have built-in lumbar support. This means that the back of the chair is s-shaped and follows the natural curve of the spine. The seat should be cushioned enough to be comfortable and the front of the seat would slant down slightly towards your knees. When you are seated in the correct position on an ergonomic chair your elbows and knees would both be at right angles with your feet flat on the floor.

Office Equipment And Décor

You should analyze your office needs before you decide exactly what office equipment you should buy. For example, the printer and print cartridges that you buy would depend on the amount of documents you needs printed daily, the type of document being printed and the quality of print you need. You should always try to buy the best quality equipment possible because this will produce the best quality work possible.

The office décor should be aesthetically appealing without being distractive. You should try and create a calm and inspiring space even if your home office is incorporated as part of another room in your home. A really go idea would be to turn a cupboard into your home office if you are limited with space. This means that you have a separate space that you can close off when you are not using the home office.

You can do this by simply removing all the rails and shelves from the cupboard you intend on using as your home office space. You can then paint or wall paper the space and install proper lighting. You can then have a piece of wood cut to size and fit it in the cupboard at desk-height. You can add shelves or drawers to the space as well. It would also be a good idea to use the inner side of the doors as notice boards or vision boards.
